Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Reputable Sitters — for both sitters and hosts.

For Sitters

What are the requirements to join?

You need 20+ verifiable reviews on platforms like TrustedHousesitters. You'll provide your GDPR data export — taking ownership of your history — which we use for Reputable Profiling.

How much does it cost?

There's a Reputable Profiling fee (£29-£89 depending on application number) plus membership. Founding Members (first 75): £99-£189 total, lifetime. Standard: £279/year or £599/5 years. All prices include profiling.

What is Reputable Profiling?

Reputable Profiling is our curation service. We analyse your complete review history, identify patterns hosts consistently value, and provide 10 personalised questions to help articulate your story. This takes 4-5 hours of dedicated attention per applicant. It's why we limit intake to 25 per month.

Is the profiling fee refundable?

No. The fee covers dedicated curation time and is non-refundable regardless of outcome. We verify every review against the source platform. If you're submitting GDPR exports from multiple platforms, we count the accumulated total. We may request you to add specific data to your platform profiles to prove ownership. If your GDPR export doesn't contain 20+ verifiable reviews, or if it has been tampered with, your application will be rejected and you will lose your payment.

How long does the application process take?

We process 25 applications per month to ensure quality curation. Your queue position is assigned when you pay your profiling fee. You'll see your position and estimated review date in your dashboard. Most applicants receive their Reputable Profiling within 1-2 weeks.

What if I don't pay membership after profiling?

You keep your Reputable Profiling results, but you're hidden from the directory. Reactivate anytime by paying membership.

How does the verification process work?

You request your GDPR data export from your housesitting platform (TrustedHousesitters, Nomador, etc.), upload it with your application, and pay your profiling fee. We then conduct Reputable Profiling — a deep analysis of your review history. We provide email templates to help you request your data.

What is a GDPR data export?

Under GDPR law, you have the right to request all your personal data from any company. TrustedHousesitters (UK) and Nomador (France) must provide this within 30 days — regardless of where you live. It includes your reviews, ratings, and profile data. Proof of your experience that you legally own.

Can I still use TrustedHousesitters or other platforms?

Absolutely. Many sitters use both. We complement platforms, not compete with them. This is the next step — a showcase layer where your reputation lives independently.

How do I set my rates?

You add your rates during application. Daily, weekly, or negotiable — with any notes you want (e.g., "reduced rates for longer stays").

How do hosts contact me?

There's a contact form on your profile. Messages go directly to your email. You reply from there. We're not in the middle of your conversations.

What about insurance?

We're a directory, not a booking platform. Insurance is between you and your host. Some people book through THS to get their insurance coverage. Others arrange their own (pet sitter insurance is available and inexpensive). Your choice.

For Hosts

Is it free for hosts?

Yes. Browse the directory, contact sitters, all free. No membership fees, no booking fees. Free forever.

How are sitters verified?

Each sitter provides their official GDPR data export from their housesitting platform (like TrustedHousesitters). We manually verify their review count, ratings, and credentials. Background checks and ID verification done by the source platform are displayed with attribution.

How do I contact a sitter?

Click the "Contact" button on their profile. Fill in the short form. They'll receive your message and reply to your email directly.

Do you handle payments?

No. Payment is arranged directly between you and your sitter. Bank transfer, cash, PayPal — whatever works for you both.

What about insurance?

Arrange this with your sitter. Some hosts and sitters book through TrustedHousesitters to use their insurance. Others rely on home insurance or dedicated pet sitter insurance. Discuss it directly.

Can I leave a review?

Not currently — sitters' review counts are verified from their source platform. But you can contact us if you have feedback about a sitter.

General

I'm new to housesitting. Can I join?

Not yet — we require 20+ verifiable reviews. Build your experience on platforms like TrustedHousesitters first. Once you've made housesitting your lifestyle and have the track record to prove it, come back and join us. We'll be here.

Is this connected to TrustedHousesitters or other platforms?

No. We're completely independent. Sitters verify their experience using their official GDPR data exports. We're a separate showcase layer for experienced sitters.

Why should I trust this?

Fair question. This is built by Russell, a housesitter who has been housesitting almost full-time for over a decade. UK, France, Spain, and beyond. It solves a real problem we've experienced ourselves.
